What is this medication? EDETATE DISODIUM, EDTA (ED uh teyt di SOE dee um) EDTA binds with calcium and some heavy metals in the body. It is used to treat calcium overload. It is also used to treat irregular heart beats caused by too much digitalis (digoxin or digitoxin).
Sodium calcium edetate (sodium calcium EDTA), also known as edetate calcium disodium among other names, is a medication primarily used to treat lead poisoning, including both short-term and long-term lead poisoning.
EDTA generally has four negatively charged oxygen atoms in its structure. In disodium EDTA, two of these oxygen atoms are combined with two sodium cations. Disodium EDTA is a byproduct of the synthesis of EDTA. The synthesis of EDTA includes ethylenediamine, formaldehyde and sodium cyanide.
Disodium EDTA has a molecular weight of 336.2 g/mol. The differences are the solubility and the pH of the resulting solution. Although If you will add NaOH to your buffer, the chemical composition of the resulting buffer will be the same in case of using both. Kind regards.
