Poloxamer 407 is a hydrophilic non-ionic surfactant of the more general class of copolymers known as poloxamers. Poloxamer 407 is a triblock copolymer consisting of a central hydrophobic block of polypropylene glycol flanked by two hydrophilic blocks of polyethylene glycol.

 

Poloxamer 188 (P188) is a nonionic block linear copolymer that exhibits rheologic, anti-thrombotic, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective activities in various tissue injury models 5. Composed of two hydrophilic side-chains attached to a hydrophobic center core 2, its average molecular weight is 8400 Daltons .

 

Poloxamer 407 has been used as a detergent, surfactant, and stabilizer. It facilitates the solubilization of hydrophobic molecules, promoting their rapid and complete dissolution in polar media . 
P188 is more hydrophilic than P407; P188 is composed of a higher ratio of PEO/PPO compared with P407. The addition of a small amount of P188 can only change the PEO proportion in the mixed polymer solutions, leading to an increase in the gelation temperature
